Groundbreaking set for Eagle Park

From reports

The City of Columbia City announced today that an official ribbon cutting ceremony for Eagle Park will be held on April 16 at 1 p.m.

Eagle Park is the site of the former Columbia City High School at 600 North Whitley Street in Columbia City. The ceremony will be jointly led by Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel and Whitley County Consolidated Schools superintendent Dr. Laura McDermott.

The community is invited to attend.

Work to develop the property into a community park is expected to begin soon. At the end of 2023, the Columbia City Parks Department moved their offices to the former Whitley County Community Foundation Building, nearby, at 400 North Whitley Street. The Russel & Evelyn Fahl Aquatics Center is located nearby as well and will share a parking lot with the new park space. Development of the park is expected to be a generational project and will be conducted in phases.
