Crash on Airport Road causes power outage, road closure Monday morning

This morning, shortly after 8 a.m., the Columbia Township Fire Department (CTFD) was dispatched to assist Thorncreek Township Fire Department with a vehicle crash involving reported entrapment in the 2100 block of North Airport Road. Upon arrival, emergency units discovered a single vehicle on its side, with a downed pole and electrical wires.

After stabilizing the vehicle, the lone occupant managed to self-extricate and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Airport Road was temporarily closed, and power was restored to the area once the electric pole was replaced.

Assisting at the scene were the Columbia City Fire Department, Parkview Whitley EMS and the Columbia City Electric Department. The Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputies are currently investigating the crash.
