The Nook, a beloved landmark in downtown Columbia City, will be closing its doors on July 6, 2024, after 53 years of serving the community.

An announcement made on The Nook’s social media Sunday afternoon, ahead of the planned official announcement, shared the landmark business’ plans to close this summer.

Dave Johnston, the owner, is set to retire, leading to the family’s decision to close the business.

“The Nook has been a significant part of our lives and the community for over five decades,” the family stated in the announcement. “Our focus for the next five weeks will be to celebrate the memories and relationships we have made.”

They later posted that the family had decided not to sell the business, but preferred to close it instead.

“Thanks to our community, our Nook family, for your support and kind words,” they said.

To commemorate its legacy, The Nook will be hosting special events and activities in the coming weeks. The family invites the community to visit and participate in the celebrations, marking the end of an iconic chapter in Columbia City’s history.
