This afternoon, at approximately 12:15 p.m., Cleveland Township Fire Department (CTFD) was dispatched to assist Richland Township Fire Department on a vehicle fire at the intersection of CR 600 West and CR 150 South.
Upon arrival, CTFD reported that a crew was already on station, and they were quickly added to the response. Their swift action and aggressive attack on the flames likely prevented the fire from spreading into nearby standing corn and bean fields. CTFD crews played a key role in stopping the fire from advancing into a nearby wooded area, and also assisted with the vehicle overhaul.
Fortunately, the occupants of the vehicle were able to escape without injury. Officers from the South Whitley Police Department were also on scene to assist with the incident. No injuries were reported.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of multiple departments, the fire was successfully contained and prevented from causing further damage to the surrounding area.
