(The Hoot photo provided) Last evening, just before midnight, Columbia Township Fire Department was dispatched to assist Thorncreek Township Fire Department on a structure fire in the 3400 block of north State Road 109. Thorncreek Township firefighters arrived to find fire visible and were able to get a majority of the fire extinguished. Columbia Township Fire Department personnel assisted with final extinguishment, water supply and overhaul. Additionally, firefighters from Noble Township and Columbia City Fire Department also assisted with overhaul. The Churubusco Fire Department provided standby coverage. Also assisting at the scene were Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputies, Parkview Whitley EMS, NIPSCO, Northeastern REMC and the American Red Cross. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
