Churubusco firefighters RV, structure fire Monday

At 08:54 a.m. on Monday, September 2, the Churubusco/Smith Twp. Fire Department was dispatched to the 5600 block of East Dorland Street in Collin’s on a reported RV on fire.

While units were enroute to the scene Whitley County Dispatch advised that the fire was spreading to a structure next to the RV. Combat Chief 203 arrived on scene and advised that the fire had spread to a one story wood frame structure and assumed command of the incident.

Command assigned Engine 203 to split its crew with half of its crew to extinguish the RV and the second half of its crew to enter the structure and attack the fire that had spread into the structure. Engine 203 arrived on scene and initiated fire attack on both the RV and structure. Engine 203 was assisted by Chief 201 on the interior attack of the structure. Tank 204 arrived on scene and established water supply then its remaining crew members assisted with fire suppression.

Command also requested additional assistance from Union Township Fire Department with tankers and manpower along with manpower from Thorncreek Township Fire Department. Laotto Fire Department was also requested to the scene, however they were reassigned to stand by at the Churubusco/Smith Township fire station.

The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes with units staying on the scene for an additional 60 minutes to conduct overhaul to make sure all fire was extinguished and utilities were secured by I&M Power.

Parkview EMS was also on scene and assisted with rehab of firefighters. No injuries were reported and the scene was turned back over to the property owner. The cause of the fire is currently undetermined.
