New exhibit highlights Whitley County’s legendary educators

“…I clearly remember, night upon night, coming home from my freshman year of high school sobbing because I couldn’t write like Mr. Brittain wanted me to. He was loud, rigid and without visual emotion and unblinkingly told us ‘be verbs’ were essentially banned. He taught us the fundamentals to becoming better writers and it made me want to be better if only to see him break the tiniest hint of smile and to make him proud. Awaiting his graded papers was terrifying, but receiving an A really meant something big….”

Explore the LEGENDS of LEARNING exhibit currently on display at the Whitley County Historical Museum!

This special exhibit celebrates the voices of our local residents as they share memories of their favorite teachers and how those teachers have impacted their lives. For several weeks, museum staff have been collecting these heartwarming memories and plan to save them in the archives. Discover fascinating artifacts from schools across Whitley County and immerse yourself in the rich educational history of our community.

The exhibit is open through the end of October and can be visited weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Whitley County Historical Museum, 108 West Jefferson Street in Columbia City.
