This morning, just after 10 a.m., emergency responders from multiple agencies were dispatched to a vehicle crash involving two semi-trucks at the intersection of US 30 and 300 East in Union Township. The incident resulted in one driver being trapped inside the vehicle with minor injuries.
Fire units from the Columbia Township Fire Department (CTFD), assisting the Union Township Fire Department, arrived quickly on the scene. The trapped driver was successfully extricated from the truck as Parkview EMS provided medical assistance. Firefighters also managed to contain a diesel fuel leak at the site, preventing further hazards.
In addition to CTFD and Union Township FD, Smith Township FD, INDOT, Whitley County EMA, All-Pro Towing, and Blue Eagle Towing were involved in the emergency response. One driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, while towing companies worked to secure the vehicles.
US 30 westbound was reduced to one lane throughout the incident as Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputies continued their investigation into the crash. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
