Free water safety classes offered by YMCA

From reports

The YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne is providing free Safety Around the Water classes this summer for 500 kids, with classes taking place July 8 through July 18, 2024.

Water can be an irresistible place for kids to explore and enjoy, but it can also be a dangerous place for those who haven’t yet developed water safety skills. Safety Around the Water classes introduce kids of all ages to water safety through eight lessons teaching many critical water safety skills, including two skill sets kids can use if they unexpectedly find themselves in the water. Also covered are safety topics like what to do if you see someone in the water who needs help. Instructors will provide fun activities that reinforce their new skills and help kids adjust to being comfortable in the water.

Registration is open now to the entire community; Y membership is not required.

Classes will take place at the Whitley County Family YMCA, as well as Jorgensen Family YMCA, Parkview Family YMCA, Jackson R. Lehman Family YMCA, Renaissance Pointe YMCA, and Caylor Nickel Foundation Family YMCA.
